Four notable celebrity families

Today I would like to talk about four famous families (in their respective fields) that have caught my attention in the recent years because of their names. Their brood has grown such as my interest in what their next child’s name would be!

Firstly, we’ll discover the Novogratz, a family of nine who became famous for their decoration show 9 By Design and you’ll find out about their intriguing children’s names.

Secondly, the Hansons, former singers (remember them, the band of brothers known for that catchy MMMBop tune), whose families’ name choices are nothing short of delightful!

Thirdly, we’ll talk about the Baldwins, they’re in no shape or form new to the game but Alec Baldwin’s two (and soon-to-be three) babies with his wife Hilaria as well as the rise of  his grown daughter Ireland’s career as a fashion model as well as her cousin Hailey Baldwin (19 y.o. daughter of Stephen, fashion model and Justin Bieber’s ex) made me want to dig this family’s heritage.

Lastly, the Hadids! Sisters Gigi and Bella are the sensation in the modelling scene right now and their names are really interesting too!

The Novogratz

The New York interior designers Cortney and Robert Novogratz (who currently live in California) first caught my attention on TV. As I watch flipping through the channels, I stumbled upon their show 9 By Design on Sic Mulher. I heard Cortney call their son, Major, and I immediately focused on the program! Then I heard the name Five, and seeing they had a large family, I was dying to know the other children’s names. Maybe it’s just an impression but I find it quite amusing that parents with multiple children seem to be more daring (sometimes as the brood keeps on growing or from the get-go) than those with one or two…!

Novogratz Family Portraits and Lifestyle Photography

The Novogratz Family (photo credits:

The first-born is Wolfgang Frances (b) then came the twin girls Bellamy Nicole and Tallulah Louise, Breaker Owsley, the second set of twins is made of Five Beck (b) the fifth child – pun intended – and Holleder Street (b) meanwhile Major Robert is the youngest. You can read about the details about how the children’s names got to be in this great World of Wonder article while I will take on it with a Carol twist and comment on the family’s style and my favorite  choices.

Wolfgang, is named after the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and it’s also a nod to the Novogratz’ Austrian heritage. I love that Wolfgang – meaning “traveling wolf” in German – is a strong and “bad-ass” name but the nickname Wolfie softens and tones it down. Shorter version “Wolf” is perfectly wearable and doesn’t seem too out there as a day-to-day name.

Baby A was supposed to be named Tallulah but Cortney and Robert felt like Bellamy suited her better. Tallulah, Baby B, is named after the Tallulah Falls, “a beautiful creek and waterfall in the Novogratz’s home state of Georgia” and the 40’s actress Tallulah Bankhead (Lifeboat, Stage Door Canteen). Bellamy means “fine friend” (= bel ami) and Tallulah means”lady of abundance” or “leaping water”.

Breaker Morant, a 1980 Australian movie directed by Bruce Beresford gave the fourth Novogratz child his name. Like Danger or Gunnar, it’s an “all-boy” name, it screams “trouble-maker”!

I absolutely love Five‘s name! Just like Clover for a fourth child like this blogger’s daughter – Katy @nobigdill – (or not) makes me swoon or Octavia for an eight child… Quinn is another option but the English/literal version is really cool, such as its pairing with Beck! Holleder is unexpected but it follows the trend of last names as firsts which I’m a fan of. His nickname is “Hollie” which could be the long form for a little Hollis and at the same time, is similar to the more common Oliver’s “Ollie”.

As for little Major, he is named after his father but mostly his grand-father who was called by everyone “Major Robert” in the military. Fun fact: “Born on President Barack Obama’s inauguration day, Major could have been named Liberty Grace — if he had been a girl“.

As a conclusion, the girls’ names are my favorite as a set, Bellamy and Tallulah are stunning! Holleder and Major are my other picks, I love the trend  of-er names of the last years as well as word names and tributes who make name picking all the sweeter.

The Hanson

Next up, the musicians. Brothers Isaac, Taylor and Zac became a hit on the charts in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, thanks to their band Hanson. You’ll probably remember their songs MMMBop, I Will Come To You, Save Me or If Only.

Four years ago, I read an article featured on Nameberry written by Natalie Hanson, Taylor’s wife. She explained her name choices for their (then) four children and I was amazed at the elegance of the combinations! She then gave birth to their fifth child, Wilhelmina Jane in October 2012 and explained her pick on the site as well.

Not only the Hanson come from a large family (their parents, Walker and Diana have 7 children) but they also have a large family of their own. The siblings names are: Clarke Isaac “Isaac” (b.1980), Jordan Taylor “Taylor” (b.1983), Zachary “Zac” Walker (b.1985), Jessica Grace (b.1988), Avery Laurel (b.1990), Joshua “Mac” Mackenzie (b.1994) and Zoe  Genevive (b.1998). A Hanson quirk is that the boys usually go by their middle name! Even the patriarch’s full name is Clarke Walker but he goes by Walker.

Isaac’s family (source)

Isaac is married to Nikki, they have 3 children: Clarke Everett “Everett” (b.2007), James Monroe “Monroe” (b.2008) and Nina Odette (b.2014).

I really like Isaac’s children names, they are straight-forward yet stylish. The first and middle name flow together and either one they chose on a daily basis is great!

Taylor and Natalie are the proud parents of 5 children: Jordan Ezra “Ezra” (b.2002), Penelope “Penny” Anne (b.2005), River Samuel (b.2006), Viggo Moriah (b.2008) and Wilhelmina “Willa” Jane (b.2012).

I feel like Taylor and his wife were on a creative process to find what felt right for them and their style evolved because the siblings’ names are unique yet, work well together. Natalie is a name enthusiast since her teenage days and that certainly translates into her now mom status! All children have a name or nickname that is 5-letters long or shorter, which I like because some days superb names like Penelope and Wilhelmina can feel like a mouthful!

Natalie explains “Wilhelmina is a form of William, which means “resolute protection”.  Right now I am so in love with this strong and beautiful name, and even more in love with the girl who bears it!” She goes on by saying the range of nicknames to choose from were a definite perk.

Zac and his wife Kate recently welcomed their fourth child. Their children’s names are John Ira Shepherd “Shepherd” (b.2008), Junia Rosa Ruth (b.2010), George Abraham Walker “Abraham” (b.2013) and Mary Lucille Diana “Lucille” (b.2016). Zac has a more traditional approach with Biblical/Hebrew names and family tributes (Walker and Diana being his parents names) he’s also the only of the three whose children bear three names. Junia is the only child who is called by her first name, unlike the middle (Abraham and Lucille) or the third one (Shepherd).

The Baldwins

Thirdly, I have decided to take on a famous family of actors, the Baldwins. The 6 siblings are commonly known as the “Baldwin Brothers”, all in the movie business; Alec, Daniel, William and Stephen while the “Baldwin Sisters”, Elizabeth and Jane Anne, are less known.

Elizabeth (b.1955) has 6 children with Charles Keuchler: John, Jennifer, Jill, Jean, Jessica, Jacqueline. What’s with the -J initial trend since the 80’s I don’t know…

Hilaria holding Carmen, Alec with baby Rafael

Alec (Alexander Rae Baldwin III, b.1958) was formerly married to Kim Basinger (her full name is surprisingly Kimila Ann) with whom he had daughter Ireland Eliesse (b.1995). He remarried in 2012 with Hilaria Thomas, a yoga instructor, and they had Carmen Gabriela (b.2013) and Rafael Thomas (b.2015) while another little boy is on the way. It’s obvious that the ladies had an influence in the name picking (I’m not complaining!) Ireland is stunning and a bold choice 21 years ago while Carmen and Rafael are delightfully Latinx!

UPDATE: On September 12th, the couple welcomed their third child, Leonardo Ángel Charles. I was rooting for Mateo but Carmen, Rafael and Leo makes a really cute sibset!

Daniel Leroy (b.1960) has five children: Kahlea (b. 1984) with ex-wife Cheryl, Alexandra (b.1994) with ex-wife Elizabeth, with Isabella Hoffman he had Atticus (b.1996), Avis Ann (b.2008) and Finley Rae Martineau (b.2009) are his daughters with Joanne Smith. The brood is not necessarily cohesive but I like the names, they’re cool.

Daniel with Avis and Finley

William “Billy” Joseph (b.1963) has three chidren with Chynna Phillips: daughter Jameson (b.2000), son Vance (b.2002) and daughter Brooke (b.2004). The sibset is unisex, Jameson could easily go on a boy while I could picture a girl named Vance! Good picks.

Jane Anne (b.1965) and Randy Sasso have two children: Grainger and Griffin. The last names as firsts trend strikes again, I prefer Griffin – which is more established – over Grainger though.

Stephen with Hailey and Alaia

Stephen Andrew (b.1966) and Kennya Deodato, a Brazilian graphic designer, are married since 1990 and they have two children together, daughters Alaia and Hailey Rhode (b.1996). I couldn’t find any information on Alaia but I think she’s the oldest child. The sisters’ names sound similar aloud (lots of -Ls and -Is) but I like them.

The Hadids

Lastly, let’s talk about the Hadid, the new family of models on the block.

When I first heard of Gigi Hadid I wondered for what “Gigi” stood for. Was it Giselle, Gina or even Ginnifer? It’s actually short for Jelena! No need to say my interest was piqued; I was impressed and wanted to know more about her.

Gigi, Anwar, Yolanda and Bella Hadid

Born in 1995, Jelena Noura is the daughter of Mohamed and Yolanda Hadid, he is a Palestinian-American real-estate developer while she is a Dutch-American former model (great genes and cultural combination, I’m telling you).

Her sister Bella – Isabella Khair (b.1996) – is also a model, her middle name is a twist on her paternal grandmother’s name Khairiah (<3).

Anwar (b.1999) is the youngest, I am guessing he was named after his paternal grandfather.

Marielle and Alana Hadid are their sisters from Mohamed’s previous marriage and Yolanda has remarried and has five daughters (Sara, Erin, Amy, Jordan and Allison) with husband David Foster.

I hope you enjoyed my post! What were your favorite names? Can you think of other large famous families (+ in which field?)?

Lots of love and I’ll see you soon,

Celebs with stylishly-named children

Celebrities can get really creative when it comes to naming their offsprings. We have encountered and are now used to such names as Apple, North, Princess or Pilot Inspektor for celebrity babies. Nonetheless, some make really stylish and « mundane-ly » wearable choices. I chose to cover only celebrities who have two, or more children in order to get a sense of pattern, a name style. The list is not comprehensive, of course, but I like the following :

All of Sylvester Stallone’s children have an –s starting name like dad. His 3 daughters are Sophia (b.1996), Sistine (as in the famous Roman chapel, b.1998) and Scarlet (b.2002). They all share the parents-favorite middle name Rose. His sons are Sage Moonblood (b.1976-d.2012) and Seargeoh (b.1979).

Bruce Willis has 5 daughters: Rumer (b.1988), Scout La Rue (b.1991) and Tallulah Belle (b.1994) with ex-Demi Moore. Mabel Ray (b.2012) and Evelyn Penn (b.2014) are Willis’ newest additions with partner Emma Heming. I prefer Bruce’s latest choices who are sweet and retro.

Actors Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are parents to Dylan Michael (b.2000) and Carys Zeta (b.2003), the middle names are obvious nods to dad and mom, respectively. The children share the letters a and y. Carys is a lovely greek and Welsh (mom has Welsh roots) name meaning « love » or « grace ».

Big brother James holding baby Leo

Jaime King is now a mom of two : James Knight was born in 2013 and Leo Thames joined the family in July 2015. James and mom share a similar name (she sometimes goes by James or Jamie) and the middle Knight is a title, just as King. Thames is the famous Londonian river but I don’t know if it has a particular meaning for the couple.

Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton have four children :  three boys, Dashiell John (b.2001), Roman Robert (b.2004), Ignatius Martin (b.2008) and adopted a little girl in 2015, Edith Vivian Patricia. All choices are exquisitely refined, vintage and stylish. The boys’ first name is more daring and the middle is more traditional. Edith’s name fits right in with the rest of the brood.

Reign Aston Disick

Kourtney Kardashian and her ex-boyfriend Scott Disick have three little ones : Mason Dash (b.2009), Penelope Scotland (b.2012) and Reign Aston (b.2014). Kourtney was the first to break from family tradition of –k beginning names but chose to honor her heritage by giving her first two children the middle names Dash (a nod to the name Kardashian, also their store name) and Scotland (for dad Scott probably). She has said in the past that the first names were ones she liked, without a particular significance. Reign was a top contender for daughter Penelope, spelled Rain, and Aston is certainly a nod to the Aston Martin car brand.

Aoife and Tadhg Foden

Una (Theresa Imogene) Healy (former member of The Saturdays) and Ben Foden are parents to two Irish babes : Aoife   « eefa » Belle (b.2012) and Tadhg « tyg » John (b.2015). I absolutely love those names and the fact that the couple stuck with the Irish spelling even if and can get quite challenging for non-initiates.

Kaia (mom Cindy’s twin!) and Presley Gerber

Cindy Crawford and Kande Gerber have two children turned models : Presley Walker (b.1999) and Kaia Jordan (b.2001). Presley and Jordan are unisex but Walker and Kaia are all-boy/all-girl names.

Autumn Reeser is mom to Finneus James (b.2011) and Dashiell Ford (b.2013) with Jesse Warren. Similarly to Cate Blanchett  (who shares a Dashiell) these names are sweetly vintage but perfectly wearable and fresh for children in 2015.

Stylist Rachel Zoe and husband Rodger Berman have two sons : Skyler Morrison (b.2011) and Kaius « Kai » Jagger (b.2013). The first names are fun, even if brothers nicknamed Sky and Kai may be a bit much. The middle names seem to honor two legendary musicians : Jim Morrison and Mick Jagger.

Personal trainer Jillian Michaels and her partner Heidi Rhoades became parents twice the same year to adopted daughter Lukensia and bio to Phoenix (boy).

Patrick Dempsey has three children with Jillian Fink : Talula Fyfe (b.2002) and twin boys Sullivan Patrick and Darby Galen (b.2007). Their choices are nice, also rooted in their Irish heritage.

Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel have two children : Theodore Norman (b.2007) and Beatrice Jean (b.2012), both feel beautifully vintage. Shortened to Theo and Bea, they are spunky and modern.

Model Molly Sims has Brooks Alan (b.2012) and Scarlett May (b.2015) with husband Scott Stuber. Brooks and Scarlett are new parents favorites: Atticus, Cyrus, Miles, Otis or Gus are a few examples of -s ending names for boys that are getting attention and Scarlett is going strong, climbing steadily the U.S. top 100.

Matt Damon is married to Luciana Bozán Barroso, she has a daughter from a previous marriage, Alexia (b.1999). Together, they have 3 girls: Isabella (b. 2006), Gia Zavala (b. 2008) and Stella Zavala (b. 2010). They seem to have honored mom’s side with Spanish and Italian influenced names that are fashionable in the U.S.A. with their exotic and romantic feel.

Matt’s good pal Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have 3 children together: Violet Anne (b.2005), Seraphina Rose Elizabeth (b.2009) and Samuel Garner (b.2012). Seraphina has the most “out there” name of the three but the sibset remains traditional.

Autumn James and Atticus James are Jennifer Love Hewitt’s children.  If Jennifer happens to have a third child, will she pursue the A.J. trend, or even the A. James trend, or will she go a totally different direction? Autumn is fresh, just like Christina Aguilera’s daughter Summer Rain (b.2014). Atticus can be a reference to the How To Kill a Mockingbird character.

Peter Facinelli and Jennifer Garth have 3 daughters : Luca Bella (b.1997), Lola Ray (b.2002) and Fiona Eve (b.2006) Facinelli. The Italian heritage is palpable.

Jack Osbourne and Lisa Stelly have two daughters : Pearl Clementine (b.2012) and Andy Rose (b.2015). Both names are super sweet and fitted for Southern belles.

Jack, Andy, Lisa and Pearl

Anne Heche sons are (interestingly) named Homer Laffoon (b.2002) and Atlas Heche Tupper (b.2009), two strong mythological references.

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott have a beautiful family of 2 boys and 2 girls: Liam Aaron, Stella Doreen, Hattie Margaret and Finn Davey. Hattie has the most retro name, usually a nickname for Harriet but she doesn’t stand out in a bad way from short and spunky siblings Liam, Stella and Finn.

From left to right: Liam, Tori, Dean, Stella (in the back) and Hattie and Finn (front)

Her brother, Randy Spelling and wife Leah have two girls named Sage Aurelia and Lotus Elodie,*swoon*…

Like Spelling, Rosie Pope and husband Daron have a perfect 4: their two sons, James Roderick “J.R.” (b.2008) and Wellington “Wells” Reade (b.2011) followed by two daughters, Vivienne Madison (b.2012) and Bridget Monroe (b.2014). The girls share the same middle name initial, “M” and the boys, “R”. The sibset is a retro perfection.

Dad Daron and Vivienne, Wells, mom Rosie holding Bridget and J.R.

Shakira and soccer player Gerard Piqué considered Ulisses for their firstborn who eventually became Milan (b.2013). Sasha (boy) joined the family in 2015. The names are really cute even if Sasha is more on the girls’ side in the U.S., it’s a good surprise to hear it for a boy (like in French-speaking countries).

Fox news anchor Megyn Kelly is a mom of 3: Edward Yates “Yates” (b.2009), Yardley Evans (girl, b.2011) and Thatcher Bray Brunt (b.2013). She used to -y starting names for her first two children but Thatcher is able to share the same style.

Sonny with a Chance’s Tiffany Thornton has two boys: Kenneth James (b.2012) and Bentley Cash (b.2014) Carney. Her choices are cute and fit for boys who will later, become men.

Brooke Burke is a mom of 4: she has two daughters, Neriah and Sierra Sky Fisher and a boy and a girl with David Charvet: Shaya Braven (boy) and Heaven Rain (girl).

Chord Overstreet, Nash (Hot Chelle Rae’s guitarist) and sisters Summer, Harmony, Skye and Charity are country singer’s Paul Overstreet’s children. All family members have are word names and creative ones!

Drew Barrymore is mom to Olive Barrymore and Frankie Barrymore (girl). She has explained Olive came to her as she was reading a pregnancy book that said her baby was the size of an olive. When Frankie arrived, the only thing she liked in the kitchen was Pepper ! Frankie stands by itself and is really complimentary to her big sister’s.

Sans titre

Vivianne Rose Decker

Singer Jessie James and football player Eric Decker have lovely Vivianne Rose (b.2014) (the Vivienne spelling is more popular) and their baby boy is on his way, I’m expecting a down-to-earth and “cowboy” name like Jackson, Everett or Wyatt.

EDIT: Jessie James just revealed her baby boy’s name: Eric Thomas, like dad.

Eric Thomas II (source: Instagram and Jessie James Decker)

Eric Thomas II (source: Instagram and Jessie James Decker)

Actors Sacha Baron Cohen (a.k.a. Borat) and Isla Fisher have 3 little ones: Olive (b.2007), Elula Lottie Miriam (b.2010) and Montgomery Moses Brian (b.2015). I love those Hebrew and English names mixes. Isla herself has an Hebrew name, Ayala, she chose it when she converted to Judaism.

Harper Renn (b.2010) and Holt Fisher (b.2015) are Tiffani Amber Thiessen and Brady Smith’s kids. Both children share the initial -h and follow the trends of unisex names and last names as firsts.

Dawson’s Creek‘s James Van Der Beek is dad to classic and pretty Olivia (b.2010), Joshua (b.2012) and Annabel Leah (b.2014).

Jenna Von Oy and Brad Bratcher are parents to two girls: Gray Audrey  (b.2012) and Marlowe Monroe (b.2014). Both names are clearly alliterative (-ay sound for baby #1 and MM repeat for baby #2) but they are quite catchy and pretty.

Kistin Cavallari and Jay Cutler have two sons: Camdem Jack (b.2012) and Jaxon Wyatt (b.2014). They are now expecting a daughter, their style is a bit, don’t take it the wrong way,  hipster. Maybe June as a middle name, in order to follow the -j “pattern” and, as a first, a unisex name or a name ending in -a… Either: Quinn, Avery, Hadley, Brooklyn, Hazel, Matilda, India, Ruby, Olivia or Emma.

Honor, Jessica Alba and Haven

Honor Marie (b.2008) and Haven Garner (b.2011) are Jessica Alba and Cash Warren’s two daughters. The two are absolute dolls. I like their names, they’re not frilly but they are, without a doubt, feminine. They share the initial -h and are both “virtue” names.

Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky are parents to India  Rose (b.2012) and twins Sasha & Tristan (b.2014). I like their choices because parents are from different cultures, making their children’s identity international.

Actor Greg Kinnear is a girls’ dad: he has Lily Katherine (b.2003) and Audrey Mae (b.2006) and Kate Grace (b.2009). Those names follow the trends: the first is distinctive but not unheard of and Mae, Grace or Rose as middles are very popular choices.

Full House‘s Marla Sokoloff and her music composer husband Alec Puro have daughters Elliotte Anne (b.2012) and Olive Mae (b.2015)

British singer Lily Allen is mom to Ethel Mary (b. 2011) and Marnie Rose (b.2013). I absolutely love Lily’s choices because they are “unusual” and grandma names but are 100% worth bringing back!

NCIS‘ Chris O’Donnell has 5 children with his wife Caroline Fentress: Lily Anne, Christopher “Chip” O’Donnel Jr., Charles “Charlie” McHugh, Finley (boy) and Maeve Frances O’Donnell (b.2007).

Chip, Charlie and Finley in front of dad Chris, mom Caroline holding Maeve and Lily

Kevin Zegers and wife Jaime Feld just welcomed twin girls Zoe Madison and Blake Everleigh. I like Blake Everleigh’s name as a whole better because her names are less popular than her sister’s but the two are cute together.

Ali Larter has two children with Hayes MacArthur: Theodore Hayes MacArthur (b.2010) and Vivienne Margaret (b.2015). Her choices are a blend of Rosie Pope and Bryce Dallas Howard so, that’s good!

N.B.: I know this post is about sibsets but here are 3 singletons I want to highlighten:

Ben Haggerty, a.k.a. Macklemore recenbtly welcomed a daughter named Sloane Eva Simone Haggerty (b.2015) with Tricia Davis.

Singer Ludacris and wife Eudoxie had their first baby and named her Cadence Gaëlle Bridges. I love the musical reference with the choice of soft and feminine Cadence.

High School Musical’s alum Kaycee Stroh has always loved the letter “Z” and named her daughter Zetta Lee Higginson, a nice twist on Etta.

I hope you liked my long post. What are your favorite Hollywood sibsets? Can you think of others?
